dKol Challenging Herself

dKol Challenging Herself

What is confidence and empowerment and how does it affect YOU. You, as in the generalized you, the one that isn't gender specific. For me, it looks something like this: my vision for la femme with a twist (maybe twist isn't the right word, because it's intended to showcase equality as in a common language and occurrence). With that said, I wanted to photograph a male's session with the same values la femme has and translate it visually in a similar way.

But now it's got me thinking deeper, how can I create a genderless la femme? The message would remain the same and the intended outcome would be the same as well. Do you see the vision and can you relate to the outcome?

dKol and Sam's Barber Shop

Awhile back I took some photos of Sam and his shop, but this isn't about that. This entry is about realness.

So many things come to mind when I think of Sam's Barber Shop-passionate, enthusiastic, motivated, hardworking, thoughtful, creative, zen, community...when I meet people like him, I can't help but wish good things for them.

dKol Days: Addie's Dress Making

Addie came skipping into my office and asked, "Mom, do you have any fabric I can use? I want to make my doll a dress!"

We have a creative family, one that is definitely infused with a variety of arts. Dreaming up a future costume designer, clothing designer, seamstress, prop designer...! Spent the morning documenting a self-taught artist.

Homeschool win! High Five!

Change of Mind: dKol on Embracing Her Gut

I distinctly remember thinking and even saying in the beginning of my portfolio building (about six years ago or so) that showcasing personal work, in particular my family, was the easy way out. I've since adjusted my viewpoint on that very idea and have done a decent job showing them off on Instagram

I'm about to change the game and begin sharing more here on the blog. Although I've always documented my family, I realized something super powerful that has greatly influenced my work. I now see that in the everyday I'm reminded to hone my skills and slow life down by documenting life the way I see it.

Welcome to my life's journey.
